Ora et Labora – PTS shipyard built partially outfitted trawler for Vestvaerftet

June 10, 2018

On April 19, 2018, in the premises of Szczecin Industrial Park on the slipway Wulkan Nowy, partly equipped fishing vessel Ora et Labora was launched, with a launching weight of approx. 260 tons. Launching was done by transfer from the assembly yard by the building berth / slipway to the water with use of the slipway’s large gantry crane.

The launched unit was built by PTS Ltd. shipyard of Szczecin in the Szczecin Industrial Park, also known as Szczecin Shipyard, and using some of its services (eg. painting in the painting chamber of the former Szczecin Shipyard).

Ora et Labora (“Pray and Work”) is a 23.95 m long trawler, newbuilding no. NB42 according to PTS Ltd. and BN332 according to Danish shipyard Vestvaerftet ApS, a Hvide Sande based yard, belonging to the ships designer Ove Kristensen.

The unit is designed to fish for flatfish, shellfish using various methods, including as stern and beam trawler, as well as in twinrig and quadrig systems.

The cooperative of shipowners Oostzee BV (company from Urk, owned by Jelle de Vries with son Andries) and Nienhuis Beheer BV from Zoutkamp (owners – Hendrik Nienhuis with son Onno) ordered the unit at the Danish shipyard in October 2016. In December 2015, the de Vries family sold their “eurocutter” SC 28 Lummetje registered in Germany. The trawler Ora et Labora will take over the SC 28 fishing number after it.

The supervision over the construction on behalf of shipowners is exercised by Herbert Westerwal from Westcoasting in IJmuiden.

Ora et Labora – principal characteristics:  gross tonnage 170; LOA – 23.95 m, moulded breadth – 6.70 m, depth – 3.75 m; main propulsion power 415 kW (564 BHP), classification – Bureau Veritas
